Nikola, which makes battery electric and fuel cell electric Class 8 trucks, has been facing issues, including two fires within a week in September involving its vehicles. Earlier in August, the company said it was recalling all the battery-powered electric trucks that it had delivered till date after an investigation revealed coolant leaks inside a battery pack. Nikola's CEO Steve Girsky, however, told investors on Wednesday that the battery electric truck recall would not affect the production or deliveries of its fuel cell electric vehicles since they use a different battery pack from a different supplier. The company plans to begin deliveries of the hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in late September and early October, he added.

The company had suspected foul play when it started an investigation in June after trucks at its headquarters caught fire. However, last month Nikola cited a coolant leak inside a battery pack as the cause following the investigation. A total of 209 battery-powered electric trucks were in the marketplace between dealers and customers at the time of the recall.

U.S. District Judge Edgardo Ramos said the juror's online posts did not show she lied about her views during jury selection. Prosecutors accused Milton of using social media and news-media interviews to make false and misleading claims, including that Nikola built an electric- and hydrogen-powered "Badger" pickup from the "ground up." They said the juror had lied when she answered "no" when asked if she used social media. Ramos said it appeared the juror had not intentionally concealed her social media use because she had disclosed using YouTube.

VinFast shares on Friday fell 23% to close at $15.40, slipping below its opening price of $22 on Tuesday, when it had surged up to $38.78. With about 99% of the firm controlled by founder Pham Nhat Vuong, the small amount of publicly available shares makes the stock prone to volatility. Just $45 million worth of its shares had been traded by late morning, compared with $29 billion worth of shares in Tesla (TSLA.O), according to Refinitiv data. "Founder Pham Nhat Vuong brought a portion of VinFast to the public markets because he may seek to further monetize his stake over time. The maker of Tre model electric trucks has decided to make battery electric trucks only to order and focus on hydrogen fuel cell trucks. The company laid off 270 employees in June and liquidated assets of a recently acquired battery maker last month. The company now expects to produce between 20,000 and 23,000 vehicles in 2023, down from 32,000 to 36,000 units projected in May. Fisker also raised its annual expenses projection to between $565 million and $640 million from $535 million to $610 million on higher selling, general and administrative costs. Electric-vehicle startups have faced supply chain issues in the past year as industry suppliers prioritize larger EV makers with proven production capacity and demand. Shares of Nikola (NKLA.O) also sank 13% on Friday after it named its fourth CEO in as many years in a bid to navigate a host of challenges including depleting cash reserves, supply chain constraints and a pivot to hydrogen fuel cell technology. The squeeze has already claimed its first casualty in electric truck maker Lordstown Motors (RIDEQ.PK), which filed for bankruptcy in June. Companies including Lucid (LCID.O) and Nikola (NKLA.O) are likely to report another quarter of steep cash burn, as they continue to struggle with production and demand. Nikola, which reiterated a going-concern warning in May, is expected to report a 15% decline in revenue and widening losses on Friday. Its shares have rallied nearly 40% this year as the company attempts to reduce its cash burn with layoffs and the liquidation of a recently acquired battery business.
